Dachsberg

The Village

Schmalenberg, in the district of Dachsberg, is one of the few remaining unspoilt areas of the Black Forest.
Off the beaten track and far removed from the world of cuckoo clock tourism, this pristine village location offers an air of tranquillity and authentic charm.

Dairy cows graze happily on the pastures of the neighbouring organic farm. All around, according to the seasons, flowering pastures, sweet smelling hay, golden autumn forests or glittering deep white snow transform the landscape. A spectacular Alpine vista gives way to fields of cloud and fog rising from the valley when, as the locals say, “ the women from the forest do their washing“. Secluded moorland and mountain forests, idyllic lakes for swimming, mountain bike trails, cross country skiing tracks and slopes for downhill skiing are all close by. A very special atmosphere exists here, varying from charming and dream-like to rugged and wild and exuding a unique energy and aura, tangible for visitors and residents alike.
